The Balkan Ethno Orchestra is a contemporary world music experience that seeks to preserve and rejuvenate century-old stories. By blending traditional and modern music elements, the Balkan Ethno Orchestra gives new life to forgotten songs for today's generation.
The Balkan Ethno Orchestra was formed in Sydney in 2019 by a group of friends with a common love for traditional Balkan music. After studying the ancient scripts to compile a unique repertoire of songs, they performed at various venues and festivals across Australia. Their sound is characterised by pairing distinct female vocals and complex folk rhythms with the modern genres you know and love. What results is a refreshing take on stories from the Balkan villages – songs of woe and heartbreak and odes to the rich landscapes of the region.
In 2019 BEO were invited to play the 80th anniversary celebration of the Greta Army & Migrant Camp in Cessnock and supported world music icons Synthesis on their Australian tour. This year BEO showcased their “big weekend of music” with back-to-back performances over 3 days at the National Multicultural Festival Canberra, Serbian Festival Sydney, and taking the stage with world music legend, Amira Medunjanin on her tour down under.
The Balkan Ethno Orchestra released their debut EP "Zora" in August 2020. To stay updated, follow them on Facebook. For more information contact us by clicking below.
